DISASTER FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
British Columbia has a program to help those impacted by a disaster cope with the cost of repairs and recovery from uninsurable disaster-related property damage.
The Disaster Financial Assistance Program (DFA) is administered by the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General through the Provincial Emergency Program under the authority of the
Compensation and Disaster Financial Assistance Regulation, 1995.

Has Disaster Financial Assistance Been Approved?
Financial assistance is available only for events which have been declared eligible for DFA. Those
impacted by the following recent disaster or emergency event(s) may be eligible for financial support under British
Columbia's Disaster Financial Assistance Program:

Limitations: |
To be eligible for assistance, the damage must be from an event that is uninsurable including overland flooding and groundwater seepage. Insurable damages, such as sewer or sump pit back-up, water entry from above ground including roofs, windows or other areas of the building that are not at ground level, are not eligible for DFA. Snowload and wind damage are also both insurable and not eligible for assistance.
Damages from certain mud slides may be eligible, provided it can be shown that the mud slide is the direct result of the heavy rainfall, and not caused by pre-existing slope instability.
